Designed to help young people identify the thoughts, feelings and triggers that may lead to AVO breaches, ACSO’s “Boost” program is an innovative new mentoring model for 14-17 years old’s.
“Mentors guide [the young person] with improving personal wellbeing and developing skills that reduce the risk of breaching an AVO,” says Boost Program manager, Colin Renton. “Previously, young people were issued their AVO by police or a magistrate in court using ‘legalese’ language that may be hard to understand.”
“[Through our program] the mentor can work with them, making sure there’s a level of understanding of what a breach is, but also how to reduce the risk of doing it again.”
Recently launched, Boost will run as a pilot program for 12 months and support up to 65 young people from the Illawarra region of New South Wales.
