Chloe, Copywriter

"Learning more about the challenges that my community faces in the criminal justice system has made me deeply determined to do everything I can to make positive change."

I started my role as Copywriter at ACSO In October 2023, and experiencing the welcoming and genuinely inclusive nature of this organisation has been so gratifying. The Strategy team I work with are absolute legends, and I felt at home from the very first moment I joined the team.

I’ve always been the type of person who is passionate about social justice, both as a member of the LGBTQIA+ and disability communities, and an ally to other marginalised groups. As I learn and grow in my role at ACSO, I’m finding that my passion for fairness, empathy and comprehensive support for people who have been a part of the criminal justice system is growing every day.

One of the many reasons I was so excited to join ACSO is because of the work we do to support people with disability. As a proud queer and disabled person, it’s phenomenal to work for an organisation that not only talks the talk when it comes to intersectional inclusivity, but genuinely walks the walk.

My job consists of a diverse variety of writing projects, as well as creating content for ACSO’s social media pages. My work allows me to collaborate with people from every single department and program, which I love because I get to listen and learn from people who are deeply passionate about the work they do. There are so many incredible subject experts at ACSO, and it’s both humbling and inspiring to be able to learn from people who are human knowledge banks and thought leaders in their respective fields.

ACSO’s motto of ‘Understand the story, Support the Change’ rings particularly true for me as a person with disability, as I know I share lived experience with participants in ACSO’s programs. Learning more about the challenges that my community faces in the criminal justice system (particularly that people with disability are drastically overrepresented, and more likely to experience abuse and mistreatment in the system) has made me deeply determined to do everything I can to make positive change for my community.
